International Dog Collars

I love Etsy. It’s a great place to support the handmade and entrepreneurial artistic spirit. It’s also a great way to find customers.

Etsy has this great section called “custom” (used to be called ‘Alchemy’) and it’s where you go when you want something but don’t know where to find it. I search the boards at least once a week looking for posts from folks that are hoping to find some custom leather work. Of course I’m not the only one in the world that works in leather, so I don’t always win every bid that I submit.

But I did win one last week for a pair of custom Dog Collars. The gal I created them for saw some flamework I had done on a belt and asked to have dog collars made in the same style. At first I thought “flames. oh good lord. of course.” While they’re fun to do and look great once they’re finished, they are the MOST TIME CONSUMING detail that I do. There is A LOT of patience involved in the carving and dying process and let’s face it – I wasn’t born with a lot of patience.

But saying “No” to a potential customer when you’re just starting out isn’t always the smartest thing to do. So we worked out a deal for 2 dog collars with flame accents – one for a boy and one for a girl. Both dogs – Molly and Chase – are pit breeds and are SO ADORABLE.

I wish I could deliver the collars in person and play with the pups, but Canada is a little out of my ‘reasonable personal delivery distance.’ So I really hope that Chase and Molly’s mom and dad like the new collars. She agreed to send me pictures of the pups sporting their new accessories as soon as she had them. For now, here’s a few picture of just the collars but stay posted for an update with the pictures of the dogs!
